Maijo Otaro is not a young adult writer. He's a young writer, debuted five years ago, and is sort of straddling the line between literary bombshells and blood soaked mysteries, winning both the Mephisto award and the Mishima Yukio award.
His distinctive, natural writing style feels like a really manic, engaging person reading a monologue at you, and the pages just fly by, even though (rare for Japanese writers) he is allergic to the enter key and does five page long paragraphs, not even breaking for conversations...unless he wants to make a statement pop.
His website, Real Coffee is filled with flash animations of story kernals he's developing in a one man attempt to revitalize the Japanese film industry.
